Socomore won an award for its research in coatings for aerospace

Published on 25 November 2013

Our product manager, Dr Nadia Moreau, was honoured with the Paul Dufour award for her research paper on coatings for aeronautical and Direct-to-Metal (DTM) applications.

RadTech Europe announced the award winners of its 13th conference edition that took place in Basel, Switzerland, last month. The association works consistently on identifying, comparing and communicating the numerous advantages of radiation cure technology. In addition, RadTech Europe strives to stimulate and reward research and development in the industry by distributing the biennial RadTech Awards for Innovation and the Paul Dufour Award for the best research/paper.
Both awards went to France this year: the company VisioTechnic received the innovation award for their NUMERICOAT® process. And Dr. Nadia Moreau from Socomore was honoured with the Paul Dufour award for her research paper on coatings for aeronautical and Direct-to-Metal (DTM) applications.

Innovation award: serving today's architecture and construction industry.
"The RadTech award is open to all companies utilising UV/EB technology innovations. The award recognises and encourages innovative companies which manufacture products using radiation curing technology, while promoting the future development of UV & EB technology by highlighting its many benefits and new possibilities," says David Helsby, President at RadTech Europe. "That is exactly what the winning NUMERICOAT® process from Visio Technic reflects - it is a combination of sustainable surface treatment and creative digital printing."

UV-curing technology and hybrid sol-gel chemistry have been combined to develop a single-step route toward chromate-free coatings. These novel UV-cured hybrid sol-gel coatings have been found efficient to protect aeronautical substrates against corrosion. Moreover, this innovative out-of-bath technology can be applied on a vast array of substrates including metal and composites.
“The research done on this topic has been part of my PhD,” says Ms. Moreau. “It has been a very rewarding and fun process so far, and I wish to gratefully acknowledge my colleagues and co-authors for their support. For researchers, receiving an award and recognition from the industry brings additional encouragements in our future scientific endeavors.”
"Given the fact that papers at the conference typically number well over a hundred, winning one is no small feat," comments Dawn Skinner from Heraeus Noblelight Fusion UV Inc. and Chair of the Conference Programme Committee at RadTech Europe. “The Programme Committee agreed that this paper combined academic research in a demanding application area and communicated the results in a clear and informative manner.”
