ACETONE

Cleaning solvent

Acetone is a clear, highly flammable and volatile liquid used as a solvent and synthesis intermediate.

Stable under usual conditions, acetone can react strongly with strong oxidizing agents such as chromic acid, hot nitric acid, potassium permanganate, hydrogen peroxide, some halogenated hydrocarbons (trichloromethane, tribromomethane...) or in the presence of a strong base (e.g. sodium or potassium hydroxide). Non-corrosive for metals, it attacks some plastics.

Uses

  • Solvent (paint, varnish, ink and glue industry).
  • Synthesis intermediate.
  • Acetylene solvent
