Coatings

Paint adhesion promoters and anti-corrosion coatings to help solve rivet-rash and stripping / repainting maintenance issues. We also offer lightning strike protection coatings and anti-erosion coatings for use on exterior leading edges and surfaces.

Adhesion promoting coatings

Adhesion properties are a concern in painting and bonding processes. To comply with HS&E and other regulations (REACh, TSCA, DSL, IECSC, etc.), paint suppliers are developing new solutions, which need to be compatible with:

  • Different types of substrates: composite, thermoplastics, metallic (aluminum, titanium, steel, stainless steel, etc.).
  • New surface treatment solutions for anodizing, metal plating and conversion, etc., that meet regulatory requirements.

Are you finding it  challenging to maintain a high level of adhesion, regardless of the combination of substrate/treatment/ paint or bonding agent?

Socomore’s SOL-GELs are the solution for you. SOCOGELs are adhesion promoters that act as a binding agent, increasing the strength of the bond between the paint or bonding agent and the substrate.

Aqueous solutions of zirconium salts activated by an organometallic compound, they improve the coating’s adhesion properties and also protect the paint system against corrosion by reinforcing its corrosion resistance. Salt spray and filiform corrosion test results show coatings perform better with SOCOGEL.

Anti-erosion coatings

Are you dealing with erosion issues on exterior leading edges and surfaces?

Socomore’s Aeroglaze and Chemglaze anti-erosion coatings are high-performance, abrasion-resistant protective coatings that offer protection against rain erosion and pitting caused by ground and airborne particulates. Applications include commercial helicopter blades, wing leading edges, engine fans and propellers, radomes and other composite structures.

These lightweight, easy to apply coatings reduce direct operating costs through lower maintenance and less downtime. They can also be used for passive health monitoring inspections as the wear indicator layer visually alerts operators before erosion can degrade the composite substrate.

Coatings in the Aeroglaze and Chemglaze range are qualified by the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Department of the Navy (MIL PRF 85322), and are also approved by the main aircraft and engine OEMs including Boeing, Lockheed Martin and Pratt & Whitney (PWA36510).

Conductive coatings

Lord UltraConductive Film and Coatings* for Lightning Strike Protection provide a 55% direct weight saving when compared to using copper expanded foils. They save additional weight by providing a smooth finish, reducing the use of primer and paint to correct the poor surface finish that can happen with expanded copper foil perforations.

UltraConductive LSP coatings allow OEMs to reduce material and labor costs, and have the additional benefit of having heightened corrosion protection.

Available in a surfacing film and spray-on coating, UltraConductive coatings lend themselves to faster and easier repair, keeping your fleet ready for flight.

*Socomore is the exclusive-licensee of Lord UltraConductive Film and Coatings for Lightning Strike Protection in the aerospace and energy markets.
