How does LCA work at SOCOMORE?
00:03 - 00:08
Discover our commitment to sustainability and reducing our impact.
00:10 - 00:18
Some of our products have a lower impact throughout their life, but we found that carbon alone was only part of the issue.
00:18 - 00:27
Our chemical solutions have impacts on health and the environment. That’s why we began rolling out Life Cycle Assessment, or LCA.
00:28 - 00:39
LCA lets us measure a product’s total impact across 16 environmental indicators—from the extraction of its raw material or the raw materials that make it up, through to the product’s disposal after use.
00:39 - 00:48
This helps us make smart ecodesign choices. We tested cutting-edge tools and streamlined analyses to get consistent results.
00:49 - 01:14
Today, SOCOMORE is committed to two impact-reduction paths: one with a decarbonization approach, we aim to reduce scopes 1 and 2 by 50% by 2030. The second is using Life Cycle Assessment to cut environmental impact. Our goal is to have more than 90% of revenue from non-CMR products, our CMR-free products, and the development of low-impact solutions.
01:14 - 01:20
We also want 80% of revenue to have an LCA measurement by 2030.
01:20 - 01:36
LCA presents challenges in the chemical sector for collecting primary data from suppliers. Few of them provide data on the 16 life-cycle impacts beyond carbon. So we use existing databases like ADEM, Echo Event, or SOCOMORE’s own.
01:37 - 01:42
For SOCOMORE, progress in reducing impacts will only be possible through collaboration.
01:43 - 01:56
It’s essential to work as an ecosystem, share data, and ensure environmental data isn’t a competitive advantage but a lever to collectively reach impact-reduction goals.
01:57 - 02:13
That’s why SOCOMORE collaborates with other players in the aerospace sector. We’re part of IAEG, the International Aerospace Environmental Group. We participate in IAEG Working Group 12, where we exchange to advance LCA methodology.
02:14 - 02:23
We’re sharing best practices and working together to move these topics forward. Collaboration is essential to reduce our impacts.
